KT TUNSTALL
with special guest

After a sold-out show at Avalon last year, KT Tunstall will be back in L.A. on May 5th performing at The Wiltern. Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 1st at 10 AM.

Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall burst onto the scene in 2006 with her gritty debut album Eye to the Telescope, a provocative sonic mesh of heartfelt pop, rootsy, electric blues and left-field alt-rock. Eye spawned three hit singles — the Grammy-Award nominated “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” “Suddenly I See,” and “Other Side of the World.”  Fueled by these tracks and multi-media exposure, Eye was certified platinum in the U.S. with worldwide sales exceeding 3.5 million copies.

Tunstall’s follow up to Eye, Drastic Fantastic was released by Virgin Records on September 18th, 2007. It showcases the 31-year-old’s growth as both a songwriter and musician on songs like the thumping “Hold On,” the rollicking “Saving My Face,” the jazz-inflected “Someday Soon,” and the frisky pop gem “I Don’t Want You Now.”  “I wanted to be braver,” Tunstall says of the album. “I wanted to push the musicality. You can’t let previous success scare you away from moving on.” Tunstall’s formula for her latest album proved to be a success as Drastic Fantastic debuted at # 9 on the Top 200 album chart with “Hold On” hitting # 1 in the AAA single format.

AT THE WILTERN
APRIL 12 & 13

SEATTLE - Eddie Vedder will embark on a small, West Coast, solo tour beginning April 2nd in Vancouver, BC and ending April 15th in San Diego (full list of tour dates below).

Tickets for the general public will go on sale on Friday, February 22nd at 10am* PST through www.ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. (*Note: Santa Barbara goes on sale Friday, February 29th at 10am PST).

The base ticket price for all shows is $65 plus additional venue, service and handling fees. There is a four-ticket limit for the public on sale.

A special ticket pre-sale for current active members of Pearl Jam's Ten Club will begin at 10am PST on Monday, February 18, 2008 at www.pearljam.com. There is two-ticket limit for the Ten Club pre-sale.

Five special prime-seat ticket packages per show will be auctioned off online along with an autographed limited-edition tour poster. An additional auction package for the Santa Barbara concert – consisting of two pair of premier seats and two hotel rooms will also be auctioned off. These auctions will begin on Friday, February 22nd at 10am PST in conjunction with the public on sale. (More details regarding the auctions to be announced next week). Proceeds from auction packages will support legal defense efforts for the West Memphis Three via the Damien Echols Legal Defense Fund. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jesse Miskelley (the WM3) have been in prison for 12 years for a crime they didn’t commit.  After years of waiting for the chance to demonstrate their innocence, the West Memphis Three will finally have hearings this Spring to introduce new DNA evidence proving they could not have committed the crimes for which they were convicted. More info at:  HYPERLINK "http://www.wm3.org" www.wm3.org.

New Zealand singer-songwriter Liam Finn will open these shows.

MOENIA

Hailing from Mexico City, the Latin techno-pop group Moenia released their debut album in 1996.  The trio is comprised of vocalist Alfonso “Poncho” Pichardo, keyboardist Jorge Soto and keyboardist/programmer Alejandro “Midi! Hayashida” Ortega Zenteno.

With a sound highly influenced by New Order, The Cure and especially Depeche Mode, Moenia has released seven albums to date with Stereo Hits being their most successful.  The album featured covers of successful 80s and 90s Latin pop/rock and ballads.  The group has also had three Top 20 hits.  Their most recognizable tracks include, "Estabas Ahí," "No Dices Más" and "Manto Estelar.”

Moenia released Solar in 2007.  The CD follows a more 1980s electropop style, including more electric guitar sounds.  Don’t miss the opportunity to see one of the most sensational Spanish Modern Rock bands of our times when they perform at The Witern on April 11.

BEiRUT
WiTH SPECiAL GUEST

After performing to a capacity crowd at Avalon last year, Beirut will now be performing The Wiltern to accommodate a bigger audience on May 30. Tickets go on sale Thursday, February 28 at 4:00 PM.

Beirut is one of indie rock’s most unexpected success stories. Beirut is a combination of many sounds from pre-rock pop music and Eastern European gypsy styles to indie folk and psychedelic rock.  Beirut’s first album was Gulag Orkestar and while it may have sounded like an entire Balkan orchestra playing modern songs as mournful ballads and upbeat marches, the central figure was actually one Albuquerque, New Mexico native, Zach Condon.  Singer and multi-instumentalist, Condon recorded most of debut record at home.   Gulag Orkestar was released in May 2006 and received critical acclaim with Condon being pegged as a one-man musical prodigy.   In early 2007, Beirut released Lon Gisland. The EP was the perfect mix of melodic vocals and fanciful instrumentals.

The Flying Club Cup, the highly anticipated follow up to Gulag Orkestar, was released in October 2007. Recorded by Condon with a full band, guest stars like Final Fantasy's Owen Pallet (who added lush string arrangements) and at a variety of locations, The Flying Club Cup is an expanse, glorious and enrapturing album which takes a nod towards the finest of France's musical culture.

CHiCAGO
Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza

Formed in their namesake city in 1967, Chicago’s music mixed rock, pop and jazz in a completely new way.  Propelled by innovative horn arrangements, the band’s comm-ercial potential was soon apparent; when in 1970 the band hit the charts with its first of 21 Top 10 singles. The group would go on to score five consecutive #1 albums starting in 1972 with Chicago V and concluding with Chicago IX – Chicago’s Greatest Hits. In a career both influential and extensive, Chicago has sold more than 100 million records and continues to tour every year to SRO audiences.

2007 marked Chicago’s 40th anniversary as a band-- a show of longevity rarely achieved in the music business. In a career both influential and extensive, the band has sold 100,000,000 records, netted 21 Top 10 hits, five #1 albums, five #1 singles and five gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 30 albums have been certified platinum. To date, Chicago is the first American band to chart Top 40 albums in five consecutive decades.

THE KOOKS
WiTH SPECiAL GUEST

The Kooks will return to the states this spring for their biggest U.S. tour to date.  They will be performing at The Wiltern on May 19th.  Tickets go on sale Monday, March 3rd at 10 AM.

Brighton, England’s The Kooks (named after the track of the same name on David Bowie’s Hunky Dory) released their debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006 and went on their first US tour that same year, selling out shows in  HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York" \o "New York" New York and Los Angeles.  The album generated three singles, “Naïve,” “She Moves In Her Own Way” and “Ooh La.”  Inside In/Inside Out was in the UK Top 20 for more than half of 2006 and attained triple platinum status.

The band will hit the road in support of their sophomore album KONK out on April 15th through Astralwerks. After having debuted their new songs at a handful of over-packed, sweaty shows in Los Angeles, Toronto and New York, along with a performance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” The Kooks return has been met with rabid enthusiasm.

For a young band with just two records under their belt, The Kooks have already become media darlings.  Black Book said of the group, “The Kooks have been described as an 'almost-perfect' blend of 60s- and 90s-style Britpop and the new millenniums post-punk. What we dig about these guys in their young twenties is their energy and exuberance. But, these Brits have got talent to back that up. They may be a young band, but they sometimes seem like experienced professionals.”  While LA Weekly had this to say about the new record, “These guys are big-hearted boys from the same planet as the early Beatles. Proof that maturity needn't kill a thrill, KONK has tunes galore, plus jumpy skiffle-band beats tightened by several seasons spent on the road.”

CHILDREN OF BODOM
JOB FOR A COWBOY
HIGH ON FIRE

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has big news for metal fans: Gigantour, hailed by Revolver magazine as, “the mother of all shred-fests,” is back.  Its third installment will feature legendary thrash titans Megadeth, Scandinavian death metal masters In Flames and Finland’s Children Of Bodom plus buzz-building new artists Job For A Cowboy and High On Fire.  The trek will kick off April 12 in Denver, CO and will reach the Southland on May 21st with a Long Beach Arena performance.  Tickets for Long Beach go on sale Saturday, January 19th at 10 AM.

Gigantour features bands hand-picked by Mustaine with a sharp eye on true musicianship.  He sums up the tour’s philosophy thusly: “If the bands and the fans are treated well, then the entertained and the entertainers go home happy—it’s a win-win situation.”  He adds, “All of the people that really love this kind of music know that they can count on these bands to deliver the goods this year.”

In other Megadeth news, the group has officially welcomed new guitarist Chris Broderick (Nevermore, Jag Panzer) to the band.  Mustaine says that, “Megadeth is playing at a new level,” with Broderick in the fold.

JOSE GONZALEZ

Jose Gonzalez will embark on a Green Tour of the U.S. in Spring and will hit The Wiltern on March 25th. Tickets go sale, Tuesday, January 15th at 10 AM.  This tour is in partnership with Reverb, a non-profit organization designed to educate and engage music fans and promote environmental sustainability.  As part of the greening of Gonzalez’ upcoming tour, his rider will include biodegradable catering products and a reduction of plastic water bottles will be facilitated by providing his crew with re-usable water bottles to carry throughout the tour.  In addition, Gonzalez and Reverb will calculate the CO2 footprint of the tour and neutralize emissions from venue energy use, ground transportation, flights and hotel accommodations by supporting clean renewable energy projects.

With his crystal-clear singing voice and vibrant, classically-inspired playing, Jose Gonzalez is one of today’s most remarkable artists – testament to the irrefutable power of one man and a guitar.  Gonzalez, like his music, is deceptively unassuming, studied and powerful. Swedish-born but of Argentinean descent, he picked up the guitar at 14, learning the basics from his dad’s gift of a Beatles songbook, then studying classical guitar through his teens.  In the late 90s while working towards his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg, Gonzalez music career began to take shape, eventually forcing him to choose a career in music over one in research.  He released his debut album Veneer in 2003 which has sold over 700,000 copies to date.

Having toured the world in the past four years, Gonzalez’ forthcoming travels follow his many sold out shows from touring last fall and will see him showcasing songs from his latest record In Our Nature.  The album Pitchfork suggested showed enough “talent to make good on those lofty Pink Moon comparisons,” won widespread acclaim, garnering inclusion on best of 2007 year end lists and securing Gonzalez spots on The Late Show with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. In Our Nature has also been nominated for “Americana Album of the Year” by the 2008 Plug Awards for independent music and Gonzalez himself is up for “Male Artist of the Year”.
