Wynton Marsalis, the prodigiously talented trumpeter known for his championing of traditional jazz and jazz education, has a new release, 'Standards & Ballads, ' coming from Columbia/Legacy on January 22, 2008. The CD includes 14 classics such as Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust, " the Gershwins' "Embraceable You, " Rodgers & Hart's "Where Or When, " Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne's "I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry, " Vernon Duke's "I Can't Get Started, " and nine more, including Duke Ellington's "Flamingo."
Marsalis is also embarking on a nationwide "Ellington Love Songs" tour, featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and some of the Duke's most romantic compositions.
The first jazz musician to win a Pulitzer Prize, Wynton Marsalis has released nearly 50 albums since 1981. 'Standards & Ballads' is one of his most accessible, featuring tender renditions and beautiful arrangements of some of the best-known love songs of all time.
